Hi CTLF Players, Parents and Friends,

Congratulations to all for a very strong Summer 2010
It truly was a team effort this summer, and your support and commitment throughout was incredible. Starting with the June 6th Maureen O'Shea Tribute at Connecticut College, on the road to compete in the heat of the June and July tournaments, traveling to Vail, and on through the Duke Camp...we truly have a great deal to be thankful for. And, just ask the 2013s how much fun staying over in a North Carolina airport can be!

To the 2011s, congratulations for all your hard work and dedication to CTLF over the years. You consistently represented CTLF with such class and we're all proud of you. We're confident that you'll have much success both academically and athletically as you head into your senior year of High School.

To the 2012s, as we talked about at The Rise tournament, it's your turn now and get ready for the demands and opportunities of your junior year. You all are well on your way!

To the 2013s, you have a summer experience of club lacrosse and a glimpse of what the lacrosse landscape looks like. Great start and we're excited about the road ahead of you over the next few years.

And, finally, to the 2014s...welcome! Just ask any CTLF current player, alum, parent, or friend what it means to wear a red/white pinny and blue/white shorts and we know you'll hear all about a proud tradition.

A Tribute to Maureen O'Shea - CTLF in Hanover, NH
by posted 03/18/2010

Wednesday March 17th was a beautiful day across much of the Northeast and especially in Hanover, New Hampshire where the Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse team hosted Columbia.  The players and coaches from both schools dedicated the game to the memory of Maureen O'Shea.  Remarkably, between the two teams, there were a total of 9 CTLF players who were coached by Maureen and they wore red armbands in her honor.  A wonderful tribute.

OBITUARY OF MAUREEN O'SHEA
by posted 03/15/2010

Maureen E. O’Shea, a Rye native, and a Greenwich resident for over 30 years, died Saturday, March 13, at Greenwich Hospital, following a battle with cancer.  She was 56 years old.

Born May 27, 1953, in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of Bernard and Norma O’Shea.  The family moved to Rye shortly after Maureen’s birth.  A 1971 graduate of Rye High School, she served as senior class President, member of the yearbook staff, Director of make-up in the Curtain Going Up Club, Editor of the Zephyr art magazine, member of the National Honor Society, President of the Girls Athletic Association, Captain of the synchronized swimming team, as well as, playing lacrosse.  She matriculated to Smith College, leaving after her freshman year to marry David Moxhay, also of Rye, who she later divorced.  Maureen completed her undergraduate studies at Manhattanville College, and subsequently earned her masters in Special Education from Fairfield University.

Settling in Greenwich in 1976, she became a teacher at New Lebanon Elementary School.  In 1985 she left teaching to join Unum, as an insurance sales representative, eventually serving on the boards of several influential industry groups.   In 1989 Maureen left Unum to start her own employee benefits consulting firm in Greenwich, Focus Consulting.  She was an active member of the Greenwich Rotary Club for many years, including serving as the club’s President.

In 1994 Maureen became involved with the girls’ youth lacrosse program at the Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center.  Over the next several years she expanded the program from 7th & 8th grade to 1st through 8th grade, growing from a couple dozen participants to several hundred.  This prompted the recognition of need for an opportunity for girls in lower Westchester and Fairfield counties to form the Fairchester Lacrosse Association (FCLA), nurturing young girls 1st through 8th grades, interested in the sport of lacrosse.  She was also part of the group of coaches and parents who founded Greenwich Youth Lacrosse.  In 2001 she founded the club program Connecticut Lacrosse Futures for premier high school girls’ lacrosse players from throughout lower New England and Westchester.  She continued her passion for lacrosse as the varsity girls’ lacrosse coach at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, and then Rye High School.  Over the years dozens of her CTLF players earned All-American and Academic All-American at both the high school and college levels, and several were selected for the women’s national team.  She served on numerous national and regional committees for US Lacrosse.

Maureen is survived by her son, Chris Moxhay, and by her siblings, Brian O’Shea, Kevin O’Shea, Kathleen O’Shea, Stephen O’Shea, and Sean O’Shea.  She is also survived by the hundreds of outstanding young women she mentored on and off the lacrosse field.

A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held on Saturday, March 20, at Westchester Country Club in Rye, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. A scholarship is being established in Maureen’s memory, and the family requests donations in lieu of flowers.  Please make checks payable to the Maureen O'Shea Women's Lacrosse Scholarship Fund In Memory Of Maureen O’Shea, and send them to P.O. Box 5295, Greenwich, CT 06831.
